FORT LEE, Va. (March 4, 2010) – Fort Lee’s McLaughlin Hall, home of the Joint Culinary Center of Excellence, was named in honor of Lt. Gen. John D. McLaughlin, a champion of all things food service.
McLaughlin began his military career as an enlisted Soldier in the 1930s. After leaving the military, he was recalled to active service when the U.S. joined in World War II. He graduated from the first Quartermaster Officer Candidate School offered at Camp Lee in 1942 and went on to serve with the 83rd Infantry Division in Europe as the Army’s youngest division quartermaster. He participated in five major campaigns with the 83rd.
