Hood Display Honors the Fallen
(FORT LEE, Va.) March 11, 2010 - As the 35th U.S. Army Culinary Arts Competition enters its final days at Fort Lee, onlookers are left with lasting memories of five-star cuisine and elaborate table displays that showcased the talents of the military’s food service professionals.
For one team, this year’s competition held special significance. It was an opportunity for them to pay tribute to the victims of the Nov. 5, 2009 shootings at Fort Hood, Texas. The team representing that installation created a memorable table display that garnered high marks from competition judges.
Team Lee Kicks Off AER, Hosts Town Hall Meeting
FORT LEE, Va. (March 11, 2010) – Team Lee kicked off the annual Army Emergency Relief campaign and held the quarterly town hall meeting on March 4 at the Army Logistics University’s packed Green Auditorium.
To begin the once-a-year fund-raising event, Col. Michael G. Morrow, U.S. Army Garrison and Fort Lee commander, introduced Eldon Mullis, Army Emergency Relief deputy director for administration and corporate secretary. Mullis told the audience about little-known aspects of the non-profit organization that has been supporting Soldiers since 1942. The Commander’s Referral Program, for example, allows company commanders and first sergeants to authorize an AER loan up to $1,000 for a Soldier’s qualifying need.
Something Special at Fort Lee: The Youth
FORT LEE, Va. (March 11, 2010) – As the parent of three military children, a member of Team Lee and a writer for the Fort Lee Traveller, I am often looking for ways to showcase the extraordinary youth of our installation.
Luckily for me, I have the honor of meeting many special people who contribute much to their community, many of them not yet 16 years of age.
Task Force 240th Returns
Thirty-five members of Task Force 240th returned from a yearlong deployment Monday. Pictured, Sgt. Nubia Asca greets daughter Josilyn upon her return from a year-long deployment overseas. The group brought a special gift back to the command from their deployment. Col. Stephen M.C. Cherry, 49th Quartermaster Group commander, accepted a welded sword from members of Task Force 240th during the redeployment ceremony Monday. The unit, comprised of Soldiers from the 240th QM Battalion, 49th QM Group, created the sword during their deployment and engraved their names on it to give to the command.
KAHC Receives Top MHS Recognition
(FORT LEE, Va.) March 11, 2010 - A pair of cash awards totaling $90,000 were presented to Kenner Army Health Clinic recently in recognition of the facility’s procedural changes that resulted in safer and more highly rated patient care.
The presentation occurred at the 2010 Military Health System Conference in National Harbor, Mich. Kenner was one of five medical treatment facilities that received a Department of Defense Patient Safety Award. It was recognized by the Army Surgeon General also for a 12.1 percent increase in its outpatient workload and a “most-improved” rating in the area of patient satisfaction.
Kenner Class Helps Parents Understand Kid Care
(FORT LEE, Va.) March 11, 2010 - The Wilkerson Pediatric Clinic at Kenner Army Health Clinic offers a self-care class to teach parents about proper medicine use.
While the class existed for years, many new Fort Lee parents may not have been aware of it or the information provided in it.
VMI Engineering Students Visit Fort Lee
(FORT LEE, Va.) March 11, 2010m - A group of area college students got an up-close look at the various aspects of civil engineering during a visit to Fort Lee last week.
More than 30 students from the Virginia Military Institute received briefings and toured Ordnance Campus construction areas to help them comprehend the full spectrum of their chosen career fields.
Environmental Assessment
(FORT LEE, Va.) March 11, 2010 - The U.S. Army Garrison, Fort Lee has prepared an Environmental Assessment to analyze potential impacts from the adoption and implementation of the 2010 Installation Real Property Master Plan update.
The EA analyzes projects identified in the 2010 RPMP that are planned to accommodate facility requirements resulting from Army initiatives and stationing decisions in addition to those already underway to support the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure actions.
Navigating the Electronic Age
(FORT LEE, Va.) March 11, 2010 - For the more than 60,000 Soldiers who transition from military service each year, the resumé is one of the most critical tools needed in order to help secure the right civilian job opportunity.
Understanding how civilian employers and their recruiters navigate the electronic age to seek out resumés and find job candidates is equally important.
